Our Difference Specialist Physiotherapists have achieved the highest clinical qualification available to Physiotherapists in Australia, awarded by the Australian College of Physiotherapists. Our Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists are industry leaders in the management of complex musculoskeletal injuries and pain disorders. We offer assessment, treatment and management planning services. You may wish to consult us regarding management of your problem, or alternatively, your treating therapist or practitioner may request we provide a one-off review of your problem, to provide additional suggestions for management. We encourage treating therapists to sit-in on the consultation as part of our collaborative approach. Family members are also welcome to attend.

The Pain Options Philosophy Pain Options began as an idea to develop a service for people with musculoskeletal pain in the Workers’ Compensation system whose needs are not easily met by existing services. Our experience with people seeking care in the Workers’ Compensation system is that while timely access to EARLY and APPROPRIATE advice and care is recognised as a priority, it is often difficult to achieve. We have developed a service that aims to help fill this gap, by providing timely, expert advice and care. A team approach that addresses the different factors contributing to a person’s ongoing pain and disability is usually required. At Pain Options we are dedicated to establishing collaborative partnerships with individuals and organisations to provide practical solutions for complex problems – at this stage, not all experts are under the one roof, so we will closely work with like-minded colleagues to help deliver a better service, tailored to the individual.

Our Team
Dr Darren Beales
Darren is a Specialist Physiotherapist whose clinical practice focuses on complex musculoskeletal presentations, providing specialist opinions and management. He is also a Senior Research Fellow at Curtin University. Darren’s interest is clinical pain. His research in this area is broad, covering the understanding of factors contributing to pain, through to efforts to enhance the management of persistent pain and implementation of knowledge into practice. One particular area of interest is increasing understanding and outcomes in the workers’ compensation arena by engaging all stakeholders in the return to work and rehabilitation process. Professional appointments: Darren has been a long-time contributor to the Australian Physiotherapy Association, and Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Australia in multiple different official roles, and continues to contribute to these organisations. Darren is the immediate past National President of the Australian College of Physiotherapists When not working or spending time with his family, Darren likes to ride his mountain bike on back country trails or his road bike somewhere on the freeway-south bicycle path between Perth and Baldivis.
